The basis of any high level design with regards to the Railway environment is usually a combination of Technical meetings/Briefs which always results in the production of a Scheme Plan / Signalling Facilities Diagram

The Scheme Plan / Signalling Facilities Diagram is a technical drawing (usually scaled) which shows all the railway infrastructure changes proposed by any given contract. The drawing is of use to:

Railway Operators; Used to analyze the effects of any alterations to the Railway infrastructure.

Designers; Used to help compile Route Tables/Control Tables / Aspect Sequence Charts / Detailed Design.

Project Management; Used as a reference guide to understand how different disciplines interact with each other on the same project.
